Bridges Out of Poverty Training

Bridges Out of Poverty is for anyone desiring to be an agent of change, when it comes to our communities' well-being.This includes educators, pastoral leadership, policy makers, community-based groups, community-based groups and more. As a research based framework Bridges develops deeper understanding of poverty culture by exploring hidden rules and mental modes within economic classes. Participants will leave with a common language--a powerful tool, that fosters sustained change and action in communities. Day 1 is the basics--"Learn and Understand." While Day 2 focuses on using this understanding in relevant ways--"Learn to Implement." Register by February 9, at the link for one day @ $10, or both days @ $20 (both days highly recommended). Saturday's Lunch is provides, along with Sunday afternoon snacks. Registration fees are payable to York County Health Coalition at the door.


End of Life - When Grief is Complicated

Freedom From Smoking Course April - May 2018

Freedom From Smoking is one of the most effective quite smoking programs in the country.  Through eight sessions, you will get a step-by-step support to help you quit using tobacco.

This program from the American Lung Association will equip you to:

  • Know when you are ready to quit
  • Set a quit date and make a plan
  • Learn what method will work for you
  • Start new habits that help you quit
  • Practice healthy ways for managing stress
  • Become tobacco free for good

You also get information about a variety of options available in Nebraska to help you successfully quit using tobacco.

Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training (SAPST)

 From SAMHSA’s Center for the Application of Prevention Technology (CAPT)

What: A face-to-face 3.5-day training for Nebraska Preventionists

The SAPST offers a comprehensive introduction to the substance abuse prevention field and interactive activities to apply key skills grounded in current prevention science research. The SAPST puts each step of the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) to use, in order to help develop the knowledge and skills needed to implement effective, data-driven prevention that reduces behavioral health disparities and improves wellness.

When: April 3rd – 6th, 2018
Time: 3rd – 5th 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
          6th 8:30 AM – Noon

Breakfast will be provided each day, lunch will be provided on the 3rd and 4th.

On the 5th, you will be asked to leave and get lunch on your own and return.

Where: Lincoln Medical Education Partnership, 4600 Valley Rd, Lincoln, NE

Who: State-level prevention staff, Regional Prevention Coordinators, community prevention coalition members, and prevention stakeholders in Nebraska.

What to Bring:

$40 registration fee, to be paid the first day.

  • Please also bring your certificate of completion from the SAPST Online Component, which is required (an email with instructions on accessing the course will be sent out 2 weeks before the training- so you must register!)
  • It is advised that you wear layers as room temperatures can vary throughout the day.

Accommodations: A block of rooms is being held under DBH at the Town House Extended Stay Hotel. The rooms are government rate of $92.00 and available April 2nd-6th. Block pricing expires on March 26th, so please reserve your room before that time.

You are welcome to stay at another hotel of your choosing, however we were informed by the 2 closest hotels (Comfort Suites and Victorian Inn) that there is an FFA event going on that same week and they are sold out. If you are getting a room elsewhere, please consider calling very soon.
