May is always a busy month – we plan for Mother’s Day, graduations, weddings, cook-outs and picnics, but this month is also known as “Women’s Health Month”. This is a chance to celebrate ALL of the women in your life – mothers, grandmas, sisters, aunts, cousins, neighbors, teachers, and the list goes on.
Ladies, it is important for each of you not to get so caught up in all of the activities and taking care of others that you forget about your own health. Each year, one week out of the month of May is set aside to empower women to make their health a priority. This week always starts on Mother’s Day. This is the time to remind women to make an appointment with their health care provider. There are some steps that need to be addressed in order to help keep you healthy.
Some of these steps to improve your physical and mental health include:
Visit your doctor for a well-woman check-up and preventative screenings
Pay attention to mental health by getting enough sleep and keeping stress levels low
Avoid taking risks, such as smoking, texting while driving, and not wearing a seat belt or bike helmet
Getting and staying healthy means setting aside more time for what you enjoy each day and more time to spend with those you love!
